Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Friday 10.03.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. Unstable wind slabs can still be found at higher elevation or on shady slopes.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 9. March 2023

Litt mindre i Lofoten.

Mountain weather

Thursday 9. March 2023

9 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -13 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 10. March 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from north, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -14 °C to -4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
